9th Sunday after Pentecost

Worship

To our guests and visitors: We welcome you today and cordially invite you to join us in our worship services. Our custom is to stand to sing and praise God; to sit for instruction; and to kneel for prayer.

The Book of Common Prayer (BCP) in which our liturgy is found is in the red book. The Hymnal 1982 is the blue book. Hymn numbers are on the announcement board in the front of the church as well as in the bulletin. Hymn numbers preceded by an S, as in S 204 are found in the front section of the Hymnal.

It is also custom in Episcopal Congregations to be prayerfully quiet before worship and then to greet each other during the Peace, at the conclusion of our worship, and during our Fellowship hour after services.

All baptized Christians are welcome to receive the Bread of Heaven and the Cup of Salvation at God's Altar. If you do not wish to receive the wine from the common cup, the first chalice bearer will offer you the intinction cup into which you dip the bread. If you do not wish to receive Communion, you may come up for a blessing.

Our Activities

Parish Nurse: The Parish Nurse, Doris Schaefer will be in on Wednesday, July 28 at 9:30 am.

Grief Support Group is again meeting on the second and forth Wednesdays of each month from noon to 1:30 pm at St. Matthew's. Bring a brown bag lunch and join us at our next get-together on July 28.

The Adult Forum began the next book in the Ancient Practices Series. The Forum will be on break over the summer. We will resume Sept 12 with the book Sabbath by Dan Allender.

Live Plantings can still be given for the Lester Crancer Memorial Prayer Garden. Sign-up sheets are located on the bulletin board in the Lounge.

OutReach

Penny Outreach: Please continue to donate aluminum cans for Outreach. We use the money at Christmas time for community outreach.

Trinity Food Pantry: Bob and Audrey Moller make regular pick-ups and deliveries of food to the Trinity Food Pantry in the Central West End, but they would like to make the most of their trips by having a full barrel of food to deliver - so go through your own pantry and find canned or boxed foods that you can spare, or when grocery shopping, buy an extra item or two for the barrel. Protein-rich items are especially welcome.

About the Church Family

The flowers this morning are given to the glory of God by Trudie Morrow in memory of her husband, William J. Morrow, M.D.; and by Doris and Bob Schaefer in celebration of the 19th birthday of their grandson, Joshua Higgins, on July 27.

Birthdays: Rudy Yanuck, Paula Coalier

Anniversaries: None this week

Prayer Cycles: (Diocese of Missouri) St. Matthew's in Warson Woods, and Doris, our rector; (Diocese of Lui) Wandi Archdeaconary and Festus, it's priest; (Anglican Communion) L'Eglise Episcopal du Rwanda, and Emmanuel, its archbishop.

Looking Ahead:

Aug 5 - Libra Concert - St. Louis Cathedral Basilica, St. Louis
Aug 29 - Dress Down Eucharist and Work Day
Sept 11 - Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk

Paper Recycling: Now you can help us earn money for the Church by dropping off your newspapers, magazines, office paper, shopping catalogs and mail in the yellow and green container at the end of our parking lot. Please do NOT include plastic, glass, metals, any type of cardboard, phonebooks or trash. Our Recycling Bin.

Schnucks Coupons:

Schnucks has implemented a new program recently. At the customer service counter of each participating Schnucks store is red and black "eScript Community Card". It looks like a credit card but it isn't. The sticker on the front of the card gives a toll-free number that you call to activate the card. When you call they will ask you the zip code of the church (63122) as well as the name of the church. Or you can give them St. Matthews Identification number which is 164503184.

Schnucks eScript Community Card

When you shop at Schnucks, give the check-out person the card, they will scan it and the total amount of your groceries, excluding tax, will be accumulated each calendar month to determine how much the church will receive. That amount will then be wire-transferred to the church each month.
